Chung Ying & Home Cooking
Chung Ying is a Chinese supermarket located in Cowcaddens in Glasgow City Centre. Unassuming from the outside (and arguably the inside too), the shop provides a vast range of Chinese and other Asian groceries such as fresh fruit and veg, frozen and chilled goods and other ingredients that go on for isles and isles. I visited the store with my mum and we could have spent hours looking at everything they have to offer, in particular the variety of frozen Dim Sum. It was honestly very difficult to pick but eventually my mum agreed on getting prawn and chive and mixed vegetable dumplings to try. I also decided to keep the rest of the meal relatively simple as to increase my rate of success, so picked up ingredients to make Kung Pao chicken with egg fried and pak choi (my favourite vegetable ever). Even though I could have filled a large trolley, I also picked up some of the 'viral' chilli crisp, which I can confirm is very much worth the hype, and some of my favourite Koreans foods, kimchi and tteokbokki.
At home, I mostly managed to cook the meal myself, enlisting the help of my mum to make the rice and make sure the chicken was cooked, something I'm really not confident with! Anyway, I eventually served up the meal and everyone seemed to enjoy. Although I can sometimes find cooking a bit stressful, I am glad that it is something I keep pushing myself to do while I still have advice from my mum easily available. I believe this will help me massively when I move away from home next year and have to fend for myself.
