Dim Sum
Dim sum is traditional Chinese cuisine consisting of small dishes, mainly different dumplings and buns with a variety of different fillings and flavours. Translating to 'touch the heart', dim sum was originally created to be eaten as a snack rather than a full meal. In Hong Kong specifically, dim sum is eaten early on in the day for breakfast or brunch. Being intrigued by the idea and never having tried dim sum before, I thought where better to try than a restaurant named after it.
Like I promised myself, I chose to try 3 dishes I'd never had. I was impressed by the range of dim sum available on the menu, especially a lunch menu, but after much deliberation, I chose the Shanghai pork dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), chicken and prawn chilli dumplings (Siu Mai) and Stornaway black pudding wonton with scallops and prawn. Everything was fresh and delicious but my favourite by far was the Stornaway wonton. The Chinese/Scottish fusion worked very well together and I just love any kind of crispy pastry! Although dim sum is their namesake, they also offer the well known and popular dishes such as salt and chilli chicken and fried rice, which my not so adventurous friends enjoyed.
